Indoor Rowing classes have become a sensation within the fitness community in recent years. At SPIRE, we offer various formats of rowing classes a week: CREW, TRX CREW, TEAM CREW and FIRE CREW.
1. Tells us all a little bit about yourselves! Where are you from? What brought you to Milwaukee?
I was born & raised in Kansas. Yes, the land of Oz. Went to Wichita State University and came to Milwaukee to work for Caterpillar in 2015.

We both grew up in northern Michigan and met in undergrad at the University of Michigan. After staying there for med school (for Brittany), and for law school (for John), we relocated to Chicago for a year. When Brittany matched for her dermatology residency we moved to Milwaukee. Neither of us had set foot in Milwaukee prior to Brittany matching here, but we absolutely love living here! It’s such a great place to call home. Brittany continues to work as a resident and will finish up her program this summer and John works as an attorney for a law firm in Chicago (he commutes to Chicago a few days per week).
Meet Andrea! A Milwaukee transplant and Senior Vice President for Marcus Hotels & Resorts. Andrea is at SPIRE daily, from cycling, rowing, to TRX she does it all (even at 5 AM!). She has had an AMAZING weight loss journey since joining the SPIRE community. Keep reading to learn more about Andrea and why we've selected her as our member of the month.

Born and bred in Milwaukee! I traveled around the US for one of my jobs, so I've visited plenty of places, but Milwaukee will always be home for me! I have a business degree from UWM and worked in Corporate America for 10+ years. I then made the transition to nonprofit and began a career in Marketing. I recently started my own business in marketing and project management for nonprofits, startups, and small businesses.
Meet Allison, a Wisconsin native and runner extraordinaire! This determined athlete is a chiropractor by day and fitness junkie by night (or morning!). When she isn't cycling at SPIRE, she is crushing marathons around the United States in 3.5 hours or less! Phew! Looking to attend her class? Be prepared for some Bruno Mars and an upbeat, energizing class that’ll make you glad you showed up! Keep reading to learn more!
I grew up a little bit of everywhere, but I consider myself a Nashville native. I moved here from Atlanta, GA (HOT-lanta) in 2016 for a job with a sports marketing agency. Milwaukee has surprised me in all the good ways - from the eclectic, yummy restaurants to all the unique festivals and lakefront, I've come to really enjoy this little-big town.
Milwaukee is home. I was born in Madison, WI, but I have lived in multiple states. I have degrees in both Marketing and Sound Engineering. I have been a certified personal trainer since 2012. My experience has spanned from group classes, personal training, cycling, and yoga. I have a great emotional awareness and use this to cater to individual client needs. I believe that there is no shortcut to improving one’s level of physical fitness. It is a lifelong process that requires breaking unhealthy, ingrained habits through the establishment and pursuit of new fitness and nutritional goals. Attaining one’s fitness objectives is a matter of concentrated effort: equal parts hard work, resolve and perseverance.

I'm from (and currently reside in) Racine, but spend a great deal of time in Milwaukee. I enrolled in Alverno College as an undergraduate in 2007, and then completed my Master's Degree in Education at Alverno last year. I've worked at an office located in the Third Ward for over six years, and this office happens to be located within walking proximity to SPIRE.

I am originally from Texas, but after a several-year stint studying chemical engineering at UT Austin, I decided to be a pastor instead. I graduated from Martin Luther College in Minnesota, before graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon in 2016.
This past July, we rolled out our newest class offering at SPIRE, TRX Rip Training! What exactly is rip training? The rip trainer is a lever bar that uses resistance from a single bungee cord to create variable resistance, focusing on rotation, core stability, control, power, balance, and coordination. What does that mean in plain english? It means you’ll practice movements that you encounter in everyday life and get stronger, prevent injury, and perform better! Getting excited for your first class? Great! Before you get rolling, here are some Rip Trainer basics you’ll need to know.
At the beginning of September our owner, Hubie, competed in the 70.3 IRONMAN World Championship, serving as an inspiration to us all. He swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran 26.2 miles. Has he inSPIREd you to test the waters (and roads) of triathlon training? If so, Hubie is here to give you the tips and tricks to get started completing in your first Triathlon.
Our SPIRE Squad has been working hard all summer training for ½ marathons, marathons, and most recently the 2017 Northwoods Trail Ragnar. I will start this post by stating, I am a casual runner. My running pace is average. I have only completed two races in my life, both were charity 5Ks. Despite all of this, I ended up signing up for my first-ever Ragnar Trail Race in Northern Wisconsin…… AND I LOVED IT. Keep reading to find out how we trained and what made this such an awesome experience.
Being a part of the triathlon scene for over 35 years, it has been an amazing journey to see it go from nobody knowing the word, to everybody knowing about IRONMAN. The industry has come a long way with high tech bikes and gear, nutrition, coaching and many more aspects of the sport. The coolest thing that has become of the sport is the participation and more and more people finding it to be a challenge every year, or a bucket list item. Watching this sport from the sideline and to see it grow has been phenomenal!
